About Us

Shawn Whitney, MS, LMFT, S-PSB is the founder of Restoration Family Therapy. Shawn has personal and professional experience working with individuals, couples, families, and groups around psychosocial and medical health issues. He is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Colorado and Washington states. He also holds Specializations in Medical Family Therapy and Problematic Sexual Behaviors, is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists, and a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. In addition to his work with Restoration Family Therapy, Shawn works as an Instructor and Supervisor in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Colorado State University. He was also awarded the Colorado Association for Marriage & Family Therapy 2016 Supervisor of the Year. Shawn is passionate about strengthening people and relationships through the exploration of family and interpersonal dynamics. He employs a wide range of clinical assessment tools to determine client issues and needs. The psychosocial conditions Shawn provides ongoing treatment for include addictions, anxiety and depression, abuse and trauma, marriage and relationship issues, health and wellness, spirituality/faith issues, identity development issues, and sexuality. He believes a biopsychosocial-spiritual approach to health is the most comprehensive method of treatment. Shawn enjoys spending time with his family, getting outdoors, and cheering on his favorite sports teams.

Ashlyn LaVine, MA, LMFT-C is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Candidate in the state of Colorado. Ashlyn has a number of years of personal and professional experience working with individuals, couples and families in support of their emotional, relational and spiritual well-being. In her work with individuals, Ashlyn takes great care in using the valued time to assist in the exploration and expansion of awareness of the various experiences that make up and impact our lives. She seeks to understand the client’s worldview while working to build a safe and trusting therapeutic alliance. When working with couples, whether dating, engaged to be married or married, Ashlyn takes a collaborative approach in assessing where the pain points of the relationship may exist and working to learn new strategies for communication, safety and connection that can shift that pain into peace. Ashlyn has received training in family systems therapeutic approaches which serves her well in her therapeutic work with families. Furthermore, she values taking the time to understand what makes each family unique while offering support and encouragement so that a family’s home can be one filled with peace, joy and connection. She enjoys her work most with families and kiddos age 8+. Ashlyn has a passion to help others find and develop resources, skills and resilience that can aid in the ability to experience joy, peace and fulfillment in every area of life. She utilizes a number of therapeutic interventions including emotionally focused work, trauma informed care, EMDR therapy, EMDR therapy with teens and children, and client-centered approaches to meet the unique and specific needs of each client. Ashlyn provides ongoing treatment for those struggling with anxiety and depression, trauma, marriage and relationship issues, spirituality/ faith issues and managing difficult life transitions. 

 

When Ashlyn is not providing therapy, she enjoys exploring the beautiful Colorado mountain ranges, spending time with family, friends and any animal she can find, or searching for the best tacos in town.

Melissa Whitney, MA is Restoration Family Therapy's Office Manager. She brings her professional expertise in education to her work with our providers and clients. Her warmth and organizational skills are assets to our team.
